Gordana Ajnšpiler Popović was born in Belgrade where she received her entire education. She graduated from the Faculty of Law, Belgrade University, in 1981, with GPA 9.0. She passed the bar exam in 1987. She underwent basic and advanced trainings for an instructor at the Judicial Academy, as well as a course for mediators and the mediator trainer. She attended seminars on human rights, on the right to a trial within a reasonable time, on the protection of whistle-blowers, as well as several seminars in the field of company and bankruptcy law.

In the period 1982 - 1988 she worked on the jobs of the trainee, personnel clerk, legal officer and the acting director of the legal affairs service at the company Sutjeska, and between 1988 and 1996, at the Higher Commercial Court as a judicial advisor. She was appointed a judge of the Belgrade Commercial Court in June 1996.

She was the president of the litigation chamber specializing in commercial and real property disputes, president of the general litigation chamber and president of the chamber deciding complaints. From 2002 she worked as a judge of the Higher Commercial Court, where she was the president of the chamber for disputes involving foreign elements, the chamber for banking disputes and the chamber for bankruptcy-related disputes.

From 2006 she was the president of the Higher Commercial Court case-law department and editor-in-chief of the Bulletin of the case-law of commercial courts. As of 2010, she worked as a judge of the Commercial Appellate Court and the president of the chamber specialized for banking disputes, a bankruptcy coordinator and president of the Commercial Appellate Court case-law department.  She assumed the position of a judge of the Supreme Court of Cassation on 12 September 2014 and adjudicated in the civil law department as a member of the chamber resolving general disputes, as well as family, labour and commercial ones. She adjudicated in appellate proceedings in respect of cases concerning a violation of the right to a trial within a reasonable time and on appeals against the decisions of the president of the Commercial Appellate Court on complaints seeking acceleration of proceedings. She was also a member of the chamber deciding appeals against decisions of the Supreme Court of Cassation on substantively the same complaints, seeking acceleration of proceedings.  

She was appointed a Judge of the Constitutional Court in the General Session of the Supreme Court of Cassation. She assumed this position on 9 May 2019.

She participated in several national, regional and international conferences in the field of commercial law, bankruptcy law, the protection of competition and the protection of human rights.

She is a member of the working group and the syllabus council for commercial law, bankruptcy law, and civil law at the Judicial Academy.

At the Judicial Academy she was a member of working groups for drafting several laws (Law on Bankruptcy, Law on Enforcement and Safety, Law on Mediation), as well as a member of the support working group for the Supreme Court of Cassation - the EU project in Serbia. 

In the period 2000-2012 she was a lecturer at master’s studies of the Faculty of Law, Belgrade University, in the field of bankruptcy law as well as at the bar examination preparation courses of this faculty.

From 2004 to 2011 she was an arbitrator of a permanent court of arbitration at the Commercial Chamber of Serbia.

She is an examiner on the Bar Examination Board in the subject of Commercial Law.

She was a member of the Commission at the Agency for Licencing Insolvency Practitioners (ALSU) for taking the state licence exam in the period 2005-2015.

She is the author of a large number of professional papers in the field of general civil law, commercial law and bankruptcy law.

She co-authored the Commentaries on the Law on Litigation Proceedings, Commentaries on the Law on Bankruptcy and a workbook on practical application of the Law on Litigation Proceedings and substantive legal regulation.

She was an author and presenter at several conferences organized by the Supreme Court of Cassation - Judicial Days, conferences of commercial courts as well as conferences and symposia in the field of company and bankruptcy law.
